December 2013 and Rhett 20 months old

Month 20 went by at lighting speed. December is always such a busy but fun month! We spent most of his 20th month on the go! At 20 months:

-Rhett has always noticed himself in the mirror, but now he has a special interest in checking out all of the different expressions that he can make. It is so funny! He will look in the mirror and smile, laugh, fuss, frown, and kiss himself. He is thouroughly entertained. It looks like he is doing some sort of dramatic monologue.

-He loves Miss Ashley, our nanny who watches him in the mornings. She is so great and we certainly lucked out when she agreed to take care of Rhett. She also gives us a much needed date night almost every week. The only downfall (according to Justin) is that she teaches the boys songs from the band One Direction. :) She began taking Rhett to feed the ducks at a pond near our house lately and as you can tell from the photos below, he had a great time.
-
He still appears to be left handed, but will occasionally use his right hand for eating or coloring.

-Rhett is definitely beginning to use more words, slowly but surely. We are hoping to hear him find his voice a little more in the coming months, but we are certainly proud of the progress that he is making!

-His eating is about the same, although he will try new things on occasion. We have started giving him cows milk to help with the transition for when I wean him, but he is not a fan. He will have about 1-2 sips and then fuss for water. He is still nursing, mostly through the night.

-Rhett has such a sweet and silly disposition. He is laughing a lot now and (of course) finding much humor in pretty much everything that Jackson does and says! Love these boys so much!
Christmas 2013 was a blast! We took the boys to see the JICP Festival of Lights for our annual trip and it was so much fun! We rode the train, did the walking trail, visited Santa Claus (no tears!), rode the carousel, made smores, and bought our traditional commemorative ornament and light sabers for the boys. We went on a weekday night and we almost had the place to ourselves...no long waits and it was fantastic!

Jackson had a Christmas program at school and was a Wise Man. He had a little speaking part and he did fantastic! He also had recently learned to whistle and was showing off his new skill during one of the songs in the performance. It was just adorable :)

Our Christmas Tree this year was just gorgeous. It was my year for colored lights and I really enjoyed it. Decorating was so much fun. We also made a Gingerbread house with the boys and ordered new personalized stockings. Both boys really got into the whole "Santa" thing this year. Rhett especially enjoyed getting the advent calendar out every morning and picking out his piece of Chocolate. Also, Rhett LOVED watching Polar Express and Jackson loved Mickey's Christmas Carol...although we do fast forward some of the scary part at the end! I personally do not like him to see a Disney character smoking. Gotta love old school Disney movies! :)

Of course, we talked a lot about the REAL meaning of Christmas as well. Jackson had several questions about how Jesus could turn from a baby to an adult and then back into a baby. How Sweet!
We celebrated with my family on the days before Christmas and then had our own little cozy Christmas at home together on Christmas Day. It was just so fun to watch the boys eyes light up when they came down the stairs on Christmas morning. We opened presents, ate, and then ate some more! The rest of the day was spent putting together all of their toys and playing. That night my grandparents stopped by and it was awesome spending time with them on Christmas Day. The following few days we stayed close to home and started the big task of packing for Hawaii! We also stayed in to try and avoid being too exposed to any nasty virus or cold. Rhett ended up getting a cold a few days after Christmas, but kicked it JUST in time for our fabulous trip! More on that next...
