12 1/2 week Nuchal Scan

Today was a big day! We got loads of new pictures of the baby which was SO exciting. This scan was to measure the space behind the back of the baby's neck to assess the risk of downs syndrome and Trisomy. Any measurement under 3 mm is considered normal, although under 2 mm is optimal. We were able to get some great measurements because the baby was being nice and still for the scan, and measured right at 1.4 mm. As soon as the tech was done measuring, our baby started rocking and rolling around. He/she looked like a little jumping bean and waved at us several times. Ironically, the tech caught the baby doing what they call the "ballerina pose". Justin and I both got a laugh at that one. We were so happy to count 5 beautiful fingers on each hand, see a prominent nasal bone, as well as see a strong beating heart at 159 bpm. The tech showed us the forming brain, stomach, and spine. We also got a shot of the baby bottoms up. The tech pointed out what looks like a "nub" that is looking like a boy, but warned us that at this stage, boys and girls both have nubs. So we will have to wait and see! I still have to wait on my bloodwork in order to get an accurate assessment of the test, but both the tech and my doctor were more than happy with the results of the nuchal scan. I am attaching LOTS of pictures of of our little dancing baby!
